Hiking in the Himalayas
If hiking is your thing, the Himalayas are a must-visit destination. With over 700 miles of trails, there’s plenty of variety to choose from. Here are three of our favorite hikes:
The Annapurna Circuit: This hike starts in Manali and ends at the base of Mount Annapurna, one of the world’s 10 highest mountains. It takes about 10 days to complete and involves a lot of up and down, but it’s worth it for the stunning views.
The jungle trek: If you want something a little less strenuous, this hike takes you through the Sahyadri forest National Park, home to some of India’s most diverse wildlife. It’s a longer hike (about 12 days) but it’s easy to follow and makes for great scenery along the way.
The Ladakh Trail: This is perhaps our favorite hike because not only is it gorgeous – taking you through stunning landscapes including snow-capped peaks – but it’s also relatively short (about 8 days). You can even do it as a day trip from Leh if you don’t have time for the full circuit.
Visiting a Buddhist Monastery
If you’re looking for an offbeat winter activity to do Offbeat places in Manali, India, India, a Buddhist monastery may be a perfect fit. Many Buddhist monasteries are open to visitors during the winter months and offer beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Some of the most famous Buddhist monasteries in Manali include Laza Monastery and Ananda Marga Monastery. Laza is located near the town of Kullu and offers stunning views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Ananda Marga is located about 20 minutes from Manali village and has stunning views of Himachal Pradesh as well as Sri Lanka.
Many visitors choose to visit monasteries in Manali during the winter because it is a relatively dry season and there is little chance of rain ruining their trip. Additionally, temperatures can range from mild to cold so all types of clothing are welcome at monasteries throughout the winter months!
Skiing in the Swiss Alps
There are also numerous beginner and intermediate ski runs that cater to all skill levels.
In addition to skiing, there are many other activities available in the Swiss Alps such as snowboarding, tobogganing, ice skating, dog sledding and skiing with dogs. Manali is home to some of India’s most scenic ski trails, making it an ideal place to spend a winter vacation.
