Benefits and Rewards for the Macy’s Credit Card

One of the most well-known retail chains in the US is Macy’s Inc. (M), which runs franchises for Macy’s Backstage, Bloomingdale’s, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, and Results displayed in addition to the department stores Macy’s credit card and Bloomingdale’s.

According to the company’s annual report, 727 stores are open today. The largest retail brand, Macy’s, has about 512 locations.

The company reported FY sales of $17.35 billion and 75,711 full-time employees in its 2021 annual report, which was the most recent data available.

Although Macy’s has made the headlines for closing many of its store outlets nationwide, the company still provides its customers with a wide range of credit card options in addition to its brands.

The Macy’s credit card can only be used in-store, online, or at Macy’s, Macy’s Backstage locations; Bloomingdale’s locations are not permitted to accept it. Anywhere that accepts American Express, you can use the Macy’s American Express card. Customers should expect to provide the personal information typically provided when applying for a credit card when applying for the Macy’s credit card online or in-person at a store.

Benefits and Rewards for Macy’s Cards

2017 saw a redesign of Macy’s Star Rewards member loyalty programme. It now provides its cardholders with three tiers of benefits (silver, gold, and platinum) based on how much they spend annually.

The top platinum tier’s spending increased by 10% in the first year, according to Macy’s, which claims that the changes have had a positive impact.

Levels include:

Silver: Customers can use Star Pass coupons provided to cardholders to receive 25% off a purchase on any day of their choice when they spend up to $499 annually.
Customers who spend between $500 and $1,199 annually are eligible for the Gold tier. The benefits for that size purchase include free shipping on any purchase, as well as 25% off a purchase on any day of their choosing when using Star Pass coupons (no minimum requirement).
Platinum: This is the highest tier that can be obtained, and it is only open to customers who spend $1,200 or more annually at Macy’s. These customers get all the benefits that are available at the silver and gold tiers, plus they get 5% back in rewards on every purchase. Platinum cards are platinum in colour as opposed to Silver and Gold cards, which are the red colour that has become synonymous with the retailer.

When used in Macy’s, the Macy’s American Express card entitles the holder to the silver, gold, and platinum tiers, but it also comes with additional perks. Outside of Macy’s, it adheres to the 3-2-1 principle: The card offers its users three percent back in rewards when they dine out or order takeout, two percent back in rewards when they shop at gas stations and grocery stores, and one percent back on all other purchases.

It’s interesting to note that in 2018, Macy’s also introduced a tender-neutral option, which increased the number of loyalty programme members by over three million. With this option, customers can join the loyalty programme regardless of their payment option and without a Macy’s credit card.

Obtaining a Macy’s credit card

You can apply for both the Macy’s and the Amex versions simultaneously, and then choose the one you want.

Both credit card applicants are also eligible for a discount on macy $10 coupon purchases made on the same day and the following day, up to a maximum savings of $100, following a credit inquiry and approval.

As of 2021, the variable APR for the Macy’s Credit Card and Macy’s American Express card is 25.24 percent, and late or returned payment penalties can cost up to $40.
