How to Set Up and Install the Best Firestick Browsers

Posted by

This post will list the top Firestick browsers. These browsers are compatible with FireStick 2nd Gen and Fire Stick 4K. They also work on Fire TV Cube and older Fire TV models.

Although Amazon Fire TV Stick or Fire TV are most well-known for streaming, they can also play your favorite movies and shows. You can play video games and browse the internet using web browsers.

Amazon Store has very few options when it comes to FireStick browsers. It is better than Android TV devices, where Google has removed all browsers from their Play Store.

Here are the top FireStick browsers that you can get for your device. These browsers can be used to access web-only streaming sites or stream content.

All the browsers that we will be discussing in this article are available for download from Amazon’s official Store. Sideloading unsupported browsers on FireStick is not a good idea. They can be a nuisance and don’t offer a great browsing experience.

Google Chrome, for example, is not available in the Amazon Store. It can be downloaded manually. To use it, however, you’ll need a toggle. This guide will show you how to install Chrome on FireStick..

How to install FireStick browsers

You can purchase the official browsers from the Amazon Store, as I recommend them. You don’t need to install them on your FireStick.

These steps will help you install your Fire Stick browser.

  1. Select Search from your Fire TV Stick home screen

Select the lens icon at the top-left corner if your FireStick isn’t yet updated to the new interface.

  1. Enter the name of your browser (e.g. Silk browser).

In the search results, click the browser

  1. The browser icon/tile is located on the next window.
  2. Click Download in this window. Wait for the browser’s download to complete.
  3. To access the installed browser, click Open

Best FireStick Browsers

This is our list with the top browsers for FireStick. A bonus section is also included at the end.

1. Amazon Silk – The Web Browser

Amazon Silk is a FireStick browser that’s simple to use and has easy controls. This browser was specifically designed for Fire TV devices. Silk also has a version that works with Kindle devices.

Silk Browser allows you to create bookmarks just like Firefox. Silk Browser makes it much easier to create and manage bookmarks. To create bookmarks, open a website or webpage and click the star icon at the top of the menu bar. To bring up the menu bar, press the menu key on your FireStick remote.

All your bookmarks can be viewed and accessed from the browser’s home screen.

Amazon Silk browser for Firestick lets you request a desktop version of a website. To load the desktop version, click the TV icon in menu bar at the top. Sometimes, the desktop version offers a better browsing experience.

Silk Browser uses Bing to be its default search engine. You can change to your preferred search engine via the browser settings.

Click Settings to change the default search engine

On the next screen, click Advanced

Click Next Search engine and select from the following search engines: Bing Google Yahoo!, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia.

You can access many other options from the browser settings to personalize your experience. You can adjust the scrolling speed and cursor, manage passwords and manage addresses, personal information, Privacy settings, Accessibility and Parental controls.

The history of visited webpages and websites is kept by Amazon Silk FireStick browser. You can click Clear History and Data from the browser’s home screen to remove any history.

You can choose to use the Private mode when visiting websites if you don’t wish the browser to save your history.

To do this, click the Enter Privacy Browsing button in the menu at the top.

Pros:

  • It is simple to use
  • Make your own bookmarks
  • Based on your browsing history, displays the most popular videos
  • Private Browsing Available
  • Let’s change the default search engine

Cons:

  • Register and sync across devices that are not available
  • Cast tabs with other devices are not supported

2. Mozilla Firefox for Fire TV/FireStick

Firefox is no more supported on FireStick/Fire TV since April 30, 2021. This prompt must be displayed when you open this web browser.

Click to Learn More and the following webpage will be displayed:

Firefox is the most widely used browser in the world, probably second only to Google Chrome. Firefox is also available on Amazon Fire TV.

Firefox can be downloaded directly from Amazon. You can access almost any website, even social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. You can also open Youtube in Firefox to stream your favorite videos.

Firefox uses Google search engine as its only search engine for keywords and phrases. There is no way to alter the default search engine. You will need to manually enter the URL if you wish to use another search engine such as Bing.

Firefox allows you to pin/bookmark webpages and websites in addition to those already pinned. Simply type the URL into the address bar, and then click the Pin button.

The Firefox Firestick browser comes with a Turbo Mode, which blocks ads and trackers. Turbo Mode is compatible with most websites but may cause display problems with some. Click the rocket icon to toggle between Turbo Mode or normal mode on Firefox’s home screen.

FireStick can also be used to cast Firefox tabs directly from your computer or mobile device. To do this, you must sign in to Firefox browser from your mobile or computer with the same Firefox account. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/accounts/

Pros:

  • It is simple to use
  • Let’s pin/bookmark websites
  • Can you cast tabs on mobiles/computers?

Cons:

  • Google is the default search engine, and you can’t change it
  • Views history is deleted from the device. Even if you’re signed in, it doesn’t sync your history with other devices.
  • There are very few options to personalize the experience.

3. Downloader

Downloader is primarily used to sideload apps on Fire TV devices. It can also be used as a browser, with an integrated browser function.

  • Downloader is a good choice if you only need basic browsing. You can, for example, access any website by clicking links.
  • Downloader, a sideloading program, allows you to directly download files (such APK files) from links on webpages. This feature is not available in the other browsers we’ve mentioned.
  • The downloader browser doesn’t have a built-in search engine. You cannot search for keywords in the address bar. You will need to access a search engine by typing its URL (such as https://www.google.com).
  • Bookmark webpages by adding them as favorites. You can also view webpages in full-screen mode using the browser. The browser menu allows you to zoom in or out on a webpage from either the remote or the browser. You can disable JavaScript or enable it to reload a page if it doesn’t load correctly.

The following image shows the browser controls via FireStick remote, and Amazon game controller.

Although Downloader isn’t a fully-featured browser it is sufficient for quick browsing.

Pros:

  • This is a great option for basic browsing
  • File downloads/side loads can be done directly from web pages
  • Let’s add bookmarks

Cons:

  • Search engine integration not available

Bonus: Amazon Silk bookmarker app and Firefox bookmarker app (a FireStick utility for browsing the web)

This is not a browser, but a bookmarker app. With just one click, the Bookmarker app allows you to quickly load certain websites/webpages within the Amazon Silk browser or Firefox browser.

The Bookmarker app is listed among other apps installed on FireStick. It is necessary to specify the URL and the browser from which it will be opened.

You can download up 9 bookmarker apps. Each bookmarker app can only open one URL. Each bookmarker app can use either Firefox or Amazon Silk.

YouTube.com has one bookmarker that opens YouTube in your browser.

Let me explain it to you.

    • Select the Search option on the Fire TV Stick’s home screen
  • If your FireStick interface is still in use, click the search option at the top-left corner.
    • Search for “Bookmarker” in the search results.
    • Select the bookmarker app that you wish to install. You can install as many bookmarker apps as you need to create the number of bookmarks that you wish. There are only nine bookmarker apps, however, as I mentioned. This means that you can create as many as 9 bookmarks.

They don’t need to be installed or used in a specific order. You can download number 3 bookmarker even though you don’t have the other 2. It doesn’t matter.

  • Click Download/Get
  • Click Open
  • The first time you run the app, you will need the URL to bookmark. Next, choose the browser to open that URL. The Bookmaker app can prompt you to choose a browser each time the URL is opened.
  • Enter the URL and choose the browser option. Click Save Settings
  • Notification: The Bookmarker app will ask you to first download a browser if you haven’t already. The following window will appear.
  • Clicking on the Install option will install that browser
  • Click Detect Browser if you’ve already installed a browser but it doesn’t show up here.
  • The Bookmarker app can be accessed from the Your Apps & Channels area. It appears alongside other apps installed on FireStick, as I mentioned.
  • The app reset is required if you wish to reconfigure a bookmarker app using a new URL or a different browser.
  • Go to Fire Stick Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications
  • Use the Bookmarker app
  • Next, click Clear Data and then Clear Data.
  • This will reset your app and allow you to configure it again using any URL or browser of choice

Wrapping up

You can only use Firefox and Amazon Silk as FireStick browsers. Although Downloader is a browser and a double-duty, it has very limited features. You probably don’t need another browser if you already have Silk and Firefox.
