Everyone’s conduct has changed as a result of the pandemic in every aspect of life. MIPS is no different. But as CMS made revisions in response to the ongoing pandemic, we constantly monitored changes to the MIPS rules. This in-depth analysis has enabled us to come up with innovative strategies to reduce the MIPS reporting load while enhancing your MIPS score and boosting your incentive potential.
As we approach the year’s end and the final MIPS 2022 reporting quarter, there is still time to avoid a 9% penalty and earn an Exceptional Performer score (85 to 100). We shall enlarge on the opportunities in this blog.
Three MIPS score plateaus exist:
Scores range from 0 to 59.9 for MIPS-2021 Payment Adjustment.
- the area of the penalty.
scores between 60.1 and 84.9
- The monies collected from providers who receive a score of 59.9 or lower are used to pay incentives in the budget-neutral sector.
scores between 85 and 100
- The incentives for exceptional performers combine the budget neutral incentive and the funding for exceptional performers. The CMS granted a $500 million allocation for the Exceptional Performer bonuses to providers who received scores between 85 and 100.
The Exception for Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC)
There will be fewer participants in the MIPS program in 2021 due to the opportunity to opt out of the program by selecting the Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Exception (EUC). There will be two outcomes from this:
Budget Neutral funds will see a significant reduction.
There will be fewer providers in the Exceptional Performer group.
There may be fewer providers in the Exceptional Performer group as a result of the two aforementioned possibilities. It will boost the portion of the $500 million in incentives that will go to the providers in the Exceptional Performer group because of the lower denominator.
If you enter your data (NPI or Medicare Part B annual reimbursement) in our MIPS Calculator, you can see a potential fine or incentive that you might be entitled to.
