Tips for using Instagram

Now that many of us have finally figured out how to spell Pinterest, here comes Instagram. Instagram is a mobile app that is the brainchild of Mark Zuckerberg’s college friend Kevin Systrom. In fact, Zuckerberg invited Systrom to join him at Facebook when the social media site was still just an idea in Zuckerberg’s head, but Systrom decided to stay in school. That decision led to Systrom becoming Silicon Valley and Stanford University’s newest internet billionaire.

Instagram is a free photo-sharing social network launched on October 6, 2010. It allows users to download photos, process them with a digital filter, and share them with other users they are connected to. Instagram has been very successful since the beginning. By December 2010, they already had more than 1 million users. By April 2012, 30 million users had downloaded over 150 million photos on Instagram. Also in April, Instagram became available for Android users. Seeing a threat to its social media dominance, Facebook moved quickly to neutralize its newest competitor. Facebook bought Instagram again in April for $1 billion.

How can local small businesses use Instagram?

You must register first. To register a business, you must have a location page. To create a page with your business location, you must create a Foursquare account. Foursquare is a social media location site for mobile users. Instagram uses Foursquare’s location database to tag a photo at that location.SmiHub provided a view of Instagram stories and made it possible to download them without any Instagram account. It will helps you to find tags, profiles. This is an amazing editor and viewer. If your location is not already listed in Foursquare’s database, you can add it by following these steps as recommended on Instagram’s website:

Download and sign up for Foursquare from the App Store:on Google Play.

Go to the Login tab and find the name of the place you want to add
Tap “Add this location”.
Once you’ve added a location to the Foursquare database, you should be able to search for it on the Instagram Locations screen and select it to tag your photo with the location you created.
Upload your photo, then tap the place name (in blue text) that appears above your photo. A page with the place you created will appear, showing your photo and any photos tagged with that place in the future.
Once you’re set up with Foursquare, go ahead and set up your Instagram account:

1. Log in using your brand name as your username.

2. Add a profile picture, company information and a link to your website

3. Link to our other social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Now that you have your account set up, you can start building your Instagram presence. Strategies you can use include:

1. Share compelling content. Where have you heard that before? Anyone who follows inbound marketing, SEO, and building an online presence knows that it all starts with content. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your photos. Ask your followers for feedback. What do they like best? What about the least?

2. Use hashtags to find more followers and share your photos. Be specific when using hashtags. This will help you find like-minded people who are more likely to be interested in your product or service. So instead of simply saying #car, say #bmw. Try to attract people who are directly interested in your product. See what other companies in your industry are doing. They probably used ideas that you didn’t think of.

3. Share the photo on other social media sites. Instagram lets you easily share photos to Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr. SmiHub provided a view of Instagram stories and made it possible to download them without any Instagram account. It will helps you to find tags, profiles. This is an amazing editor and viewer.Once these users see your photo, they will go to your website or start following you on Instagram.

4. Make sure your photos tell the story you want to tell. Posting a photo of that great steak dinner you’re about to eat isn’t going to help you much if you own a tire shop. Be authentic. Your users will be able to see if the photos you post are real or not

5. Be consistent. Don’t oversaturate your posts, but post often enough to keep our followers’ attention.

One of the complaints about Instagram is that its filters ruin good photos. This complaint came mainly from professional photographers who can feel the heat of competition. Their standards of what is acceptable are also generally higher than the general public. For most business purposes, Instagram photo reproduction is “good enough”.

Another criticism is that Instagram has no business model and little or no revenue. But that’s Facebook’s problem, not yours. As more and more online search engines do business on mobile devices, the savvy online marketer will benefit the most. Using apps like Instagram pays off.
